How Do Jira and Confluence Work Together

Use this interactive demo to learn how to connect Jira issues directly inside your Confluence pages.

Quick summary

Jira and Confluence integration lets teams embed live Jira issues into Confluence pages using the Jira Issues Macro, so issue status updates in Jira are reflected in Confluence automatically. This workflow helps teams manage product roadmaps, sprint retrospectives, and release notes in one connected workspace without switching between tools.

Steps

  1. Create a Confluence page and click the add icon located in the upper toolbar of your Confluence page.
  2. Use the Jira Issues Macro to insert Jira issues or filters directly into your Confluence page.
  3. Create a new Jira issue directly from within Confluence using the macro interface.
  4. Fill in the required issue details; Confluence will display real-time Jira status updates on the page whenever the issue changes in Jira.
  5. Click 'Create' to submit the new Jira issue from Confluence.
  6. Use this setup to maintain product roadmaps, release notes, and sprint retrospectives in Confluence while tracking tasks in Jira.
  7. A notification confirms the issue has been created and can now be viewed in Jira.

📌 Why this matters

Jira and Confluence integration eliminates the gap between project documentation and task tracking by letting teams embed live Jira issues directly into Confluence pages. When a Jira issue status changes, it automatically updates on the linked Confluence page, giving every stakeholder real-time visibility without switching tools. This makes Confluence the single source of truth for product roadmaps, sprint retrospectives, and release notes, while Jira continues to drive day-to-day development work. Teams that connect Jira and Confluence reduce manual status updates and keep documentation permanently in sync with active work.
