Use this interactive demo to learn how to create and publish a global action in Salesforce Lightning.

Quick summary

A Salesforce global action lets users create records like accounts directly from any page in Lightning Experience. This guide walks through configuring a new global action, setting its action type and target object, and adding it to the Publisher Layout so it appears across your org.

Steps

  1. Search for Global Actions using the Quick Find box in Setup.
  2. Click New Action to begin creating a global action.
  3. Enter the new global action details: set Action Type to Create a Record, Target Object to Account, Label to Account_Creation_Test, and add a success message.
  4. Hit Save to store the new global action.
  5. Navigate to Setup Home to continue configuration.
  6. Search for Publisher Layouts under the Global Actions section.
  7. Click Edit on the Publisher Layout you want to update.
  8. Select Mobile & Lightning Actions in the toolbox to filter available actions.
  9. Drag the action you created (e.g., Account Creation) from the toolbox.
  10. Drop the action onto the Publisher Layout interface to add it.
  11. Hit Save to publish the updated layout across your org.

📌 Why this matters

Salesforce global actions allow users to create records, log calls, or send emails from anywhere in the platform — without navigating to a specific object first. Setting up a global action in Salesforce Lightning reduces friction for sales and support teams by surfacing key workflows directly in the publisher bar. Properly configuring and assigning global actions to Publisher Layouts ensures consistent access across desktop and mobile experiences. This capability is essential for Salesforce admins looking to streamline data entry and improve user adoption across their org.
