Use this interactive demo to learn how to add alt text in PowerPoint.
  1. Open your PowerPoint presentation.
  2. Go to the slide that contains the image and click it.
  3. Right-click the selected object and click "Alt Text".
  4. Type a clear and concise description of the object.
  5. Close the Alt Text pane after adding your description.
  6. If the image is decorative, check "Mark as decorative".

📌 Why this matters

Adding alt text makes your presentations accessible to people using screen readers, ensuring everyone can understand your visual content. Beyond compliance, this practice forces you to distill your images down to their essential message, often revealing whether a graphic truly supports your point or just fills space. When you can't easily describe an image's purpose in a few words, it's usually a sign the visual isn't adding value to your presentation.
