  1. Click on the slide where you want to add a background.
  2. Click ‘Background' options to customize your slide background.
  3. In the Background dialog box, select ‘Image’ to upload an image as your background.
  4. Click 'Browse' to locate and upload an image from your device to Google Slides.
  5. In the File Explorer dialog box, select the image you want to upload, then click ‘Open'.
  6. The background of your slide will change based on the image you selected.

📌 Why this matters

Adding background images transforms generic slides into branded, professional presentations that capture attention and reinforce your message. Beyond visual appeal, custom backgrounds create consistency across your entire deck and help establish your organization's identity. They also serve as subtle cues that guide your audience's focus toward key content areas. When you use relevant imagery that connects to your topic, you're creating an emotional connection that makes your information more memorable and persuasive than text-heavy slides alone.
