Adding captions to a YouTube Short is done entirely inside YouTube Studio by selecting your Short from the Subtitles panel, enabling auto-generated captions, reviewing them, and clicking Publish.
Steps
- Go to studio.youtube.com and click Subtitles in the left sidebar.
- Click the Short you want to add captions to — Shorts appear in the same list as standard videos.
- Select your language to enable auto-generated captions, set it as the default if needed, then click Confirm.
- Review the captions and fix any timing or text issues, paying special attention to the start of the Short where timing has the biggest impact.
- Click Publish to apply the captions to your Short.
