Use this interactive demo to learn how to add your data labels in Tableau.
  1. Find the String (Abc) field on the Marks card. Use the Data pane as your reference.
  2. Then drag the same string (abc) field from the Data pane to the Marks card.
  3. Click the legend on the left side of the field, then select 'Label'.
  4. The pie chart labels will now be displayed.

📌 Why this matters

Data labels transform your visualizations from pretty pictures into actionable insights. Without them, viewers waste time guessing values or cross-referencing legends, especially in presentations where precise numbers matter. Labels become particularly powerful when you're comparing segments that look similar in size—the visual difference between 23% and 27% market share might be subtle, but those four percentage points could represent millions in revenue. You eliminate cognitive load and help stakeholders make faster, more confident decisions based on exact values rather than visual approximations.
