Use this interactive demo to learn how to apply segment filters to your Amplitude charts.

Quick summary

Adding filters to charts in Amplitude lets you narrow your analytics by user properties, giving you precise, segmented insights from your data. This guide walks through how to use the Chart Editor to apply a Filter By condition to any chart segment in just a few steps.

Steps

  1. Inside Amplitude's Chart Editor, navigate to the top-left corner and click Expand Chart Controls.
  2. Under the selected chart type tab, find and click the Segment By option.
  3. Locate the specific segment you want to edit, then click its corresponding Filter By option.
  4. Choose the specific user property you want to use as a filter.
  5. Specify your preferred filter value and then click Apply to proceed.
  6. The selected filter will now be added to your Amplitude chart, reflecting your segmented view.

📌 Why this matters

Filtering charts in Amplitude allows product and data teams to segment analytics by specific user properties, making it easier to uncover behavioral patterns across different audience groups. Without chart-level filters, teams risk drawing conclusions from aggregated data that masks critical differences between user segments. This feature is essential for anyone using Amplitude to run product analytics, monitor feature adoption, or measure the impact of campaigns on specific cohorts. Mastering chart filters helps teams move faster from raw data to actionable, audience-specific insights.
