Use this interactive demo to learn how to add your Minecraft Pocket Edition (MCP) server to GitHub Copilot.

‍

‍

Here’s how to do it:

‍

  1. Start by opening VS Code and clicking the gear icon to access your extensions.
  2. Now, click the filter icon in the search bar to narrow down your options.
  3. From the filter menu, select "MCP servers" to view available integrations.
  4. Type "@mcp GitHub" in the search bar to find the GitHub MCP server.
  5. Choose "GitHub" from the search results to proceed with setup.
  6. Hit "Install" to add the GitHub MCP server to your Copilot setup.
  7. Finish up by clicking "Allow" to authorize the connection. You're all set.

📌 Why this matters

Adding the GitHub MCP server transforms Copilot from a general coding assistant into a repository-aware collaborator. You'll get contextually relevant suggestions based on your actual project structure, dependencies, and coding patterns rather than generic boilerplate.

The real advantage lies in how it bridges your development workflow - Copilot can now reference your existing functions, follow your established conventions, and suggest code that actually integrates with your current architecture. This creates a feedback loop where your codebase teaches the AI to write better code for your specific project.
