Use this interactive demo to learn how to set up custom Quick Filters on your Jira Scrum board.

Quick summary

Jira's Quick Filters let scrum teams instantly narrow their board view using custom JQL queries, making it faster to focus on the issues that matter most during a sprint. You can create a new Quick Filter directly from Board settings in just a few clicks — no admin expertise required.

Steps

  1. Open your Jira project and navigate to the Scrum board where you want to add the Quick Filters.
  2. Click the ellipsis icon in the top-right corner of the board to open the board menu.
  3. Select Configure Board from the dropdown menu.
  4. In the left-hand menu of the Board settings, click Create quick filter.
  5. Enter a filter name that will appear as a label on the board.
  6. Enter the JQL (Jira Query Language) statement that defines which issues are displayed when the filter is active.
  7. Add an optional description to explain what the filter does.
  8. Click Create to save the quick filter.
  9. A confirmation notification appears and your new filter is added to the list of available Quick Filters on the board.
  10. Your Quick Filter is now live — use it to streamline your workflow and focus on specific issue types on your Scrum board.

📌 Why this matters

Quick Filters in Jira Scrum boards allow agile teams to instantly segment and view specific subsets of sprint issues without changing the underlying board configuration. By using custom JQL-powered filters, teams can reduce noise, improve sprint focus, and surface the most relevant tasks for any given role or priority. This feature is especially valuable for scrum masters and developers who need to switch context quickly between bug fixes, high-priority stories, or individual assignee views. Setting up Quick Filters requires no advanced admin skills, making it an accessible productivity upgrade for any team managing work in Jira.
