Quick summary
Adding a Root Cause custom field in Jira lets teams capture and track the underlying reason behind each issue directly on the issue screen. This field is created through Jira's Custom Fields settings and can be associated with any screen in your project.
Steps
- Click the gear icon in the top right corner to open Jira settings.
- Select Issues from the settings drop-down menu.
- Under Fields, select Custom Fields.
- Click the Create Custom Field button.
- Choose the appropriate field type for the Root Cause field.
- Click Next to proceed.
- Enter the field name as 'Root Cause' and optionally add a description to explain the field's purpose.
- Click Create to save the new custom field.
- Add the Root Cause field to the relevant screens by checking the corresponding checkbox.
- Click Update to save your screen associations.
- The Root Cause field is now configured and ready to capture root cause information on your Jira issues.
