Follow this interactive demo to learn how to add stroke in Google Slides.
  1. Click on the shape or text box you want to outline.
  2. Now, head up to the toolbar and click on the border color icon—it looks like a pencil drawing a line.
  3. Pick a color that complements your design.
  4. Want a thicker or thinner stroke? Click the border weight option.
  5. Choose your preferred thickness.
  6. For extra flair, try the border dash option to switch between solid, dotted, or dashed lines.
  7. Looking good! Your shape now has the stroke style you wanted. Repeat for other elements as needed.

📌 Why this matters

Adding strokes transforms flat, bland presentations into polished, professional designs. You can create visual hierarchy by outlining key elements, making them pop against busy backgrounds or similar colors. Strokes also help separate overlapping objects and define boundaries between sections. Beyond aesthetics, outlined text becomes readable over any background image, eliminating the need to adjust your layout or darken photos. This simple technique gives you design flexibility that keeps your content accessible while maintaining visual impact across different viewing conditions.
