How to Add Vertical Divider in Notion

Use this interactive demo to learn how to create a vertical divider inside any Notion page.

Quick summary

Notion does not have a native vertical divider block, but you can simulate one by inserting a quote block, dragging it into a column, and resizing it with Shift + Enter to match your desired height.

Steps

  1. Use the slash command (/quote) to insert a quote block anywhere on the page.
  2. Click on the Quote block option in the menu to insert it.
  3. Use the 6-dot drag handle to move the quote block between the sections where you want the divider to appear.
  4. Drag the horizontal spacer to the minimum width to make the block as narrow as possible.
  5. Your quote block will now resemble a vertical divider.
  6. Click inside the text area of the quote block and press Shift + Enter repeatedly to add new lines, making the divider taller until it reaches your desired size, then adjust its position using the horizontal borders.

📌 Why this matters

Notion lacks a built-in vertical divider block, making it difficult to visually separate columns or sections within a page. This demo shows a practical workaround using the native quote block to create a clean vertical divider without any third-party tools or custom code. Knowing this technique helps teams build more structured, readable Notion pages that improve content organization and visual hierarchy. It is especially useful for product wikis, project dashboards, and any multi-column Notion layout where clear section separation matters.
