Use this interactive demo to learn how to draw and erase annotations on your Google Slides presentation.

Quick summary

Google Slides includes a built-in pen tool that lets presenters annotate slides in real time during a slideshow. You can activate it from the three-dots menu, change the pen color, erase markings, and turn off the pen when finished.

Steps

  1. Open your presentation in Google Slides.
  2. In the top right corner, click Slideshow to start presenting.
  3. In the bottom left corner, click the three-dots menu.
  4. Click Turn on the pen to enable the annotation tool.
  5. To change the pen color, click the Pen tool and choose a color.
  6. To clear markings, click Erase, then Erase all to remove all annotations on the current slide.
  7. To stop annotating, open the three-dots menu again and click Turn off the pen.

📌 Why this matters

Google Slides' built-in pen tool allows presenters to annotate slides in real time, making live presentations more engaging and interactive. Being able to highlight key points, draw attention to data, and erase annotations on the fly gives presenters full control over their delivery. This feature requires no third-party tools and works directly within the Google Slides slideshow interface. Mastering annotation in Google Slides helps educators, sales teams, and business presenters communicate ideas more clearly during live sessions.
