Use this interactive demo to learn how to automatically create Jira issues from PagerDuty incidents using Zapier.

Quick summary

This demo shows how to automate Jira issue creation from PagerDuty incidents using a Zapier workflow, eliminating manual handoffs between on-call and engineering teams. By connecting PagerDuty as the trigger and Jira Software Cloud as the action, teams can ensure every incident automatically generates a trackable issue without leaving either platform.

Steps

  1. From your Zapier dashboard, select Zap to start building a new workflow.
  2. Open the Zap editor to begin configuring your automation.
  3. Search for and select PagerDuty as the trigger app.
  4. Choose a trigger event to define what PagerDuty activity starts the Zap.
  5. Connect and authorize your PagerDuty account in Zapier.
  6. Customize your trigger settings to filter or refine which incidents fire the Zap.
  7. Click Test trigger to confirm Zapier receives valid sample incident data from PagerDuty.
  8. Select Jira Software Cloud as the action app.
  9. Click Create a new issue as your action event.
  10. Link your Jira account to authorize the connection in Zapier.
  11. Configure the issue fields using PagerDuty data and click Continue.
  12. Click Test step to verify the workflow successfully creates a Jira issue.
  13. After successful testing, click Publish to activate your automated Zap.

📌 Why this matters

Manually creating Jira issues from PagerDuty incidents is slow and error-prone, causing delays in incident response and engineering visibility. Automating this workflow with Zapier ensures that every PagerDuty alert instantly generates a tracked Jira issue, keeping on-call and development teams aligned without any manual effort. This integration reduces mean time to resolution (MTTR) by eliminating context-switching and ensuring no incident falls through the cracks. For teams running DevOps or SRE workflows, connecting PagerDuty to Jira via Zapier is a critical step toward fully automated incident management.
