To back up Microsoft Planner, you can export any plan to Excel directly from the plan's top menu — no third-party tools required. This built-in export feature saves a full copy of your plan's tasks and data to your local storage as a downloadable Excel file.
Steps
- In the left-side panel, click My Plans to view all your available plans.
- Find and open the plan you want to back up by clicking on it.
- In the top menu bar, click the drop-down arrow next to the plan name.
- From the dropdown menu, click Export Plan to Excel.
- The selected plan will be exported and downloaded to your local storage as an Excel file — store it in a safe location as your plan backup.
