Use this interactive demo to learn how to export and back up your Salesforce data in minutes.

Quick summary

Backing up Salesforce data is done through the built-in Data Export tool found in Setup, allowing admins to run a one-time export or schedule recurring backups. Once initiated, Salesforce processes the export and sends an email notification when the backup file is ready to download.

Steps

  1. Go to Setup from the Salesforce navigation menu.
  2. Search for "Data Export" in the Quick Find bar in the left column.
  3. Select the Data you want to export.
  4. Hit Start Export to begin the backup process.
  5. Choose a One-time Export to back up once, or select Schedule Export to set up recurring backups.
  6. Wait for an email notification confirming the export is complete.

📌 Why this matters

Salesforce stores critical business data including leads, opportunities, and customer records that must be protected against accidental deletion, data corruption, or org migrations. The native Salesforce Data Export tool gives administrators a straightforward way to create scheduled or on-demand backups without third-party tools. Regularly backing up Salesforce data ensures business continuity, supports compliance requirements, and reduces risk during major configuration changes or platform updates.
