Use this interactive demo to learn how to tag and balance content types in your Buffer Queue.

Quick summary

Balancing content types in your Buffer Queue ensures your social media schedule stays varied and effective. By tagging posts with content categories and reviewing the Scheduled column in Manage Tags, you can maintain an equal distribution across all content types.

Steps

  1. Inside Buffer's Publish tab, select a post under Queue and click its corresponding Add Tags button.
  2. Tick the checkbox next to the tag that best describes the content type of the selected post.
  3. Tap anywhere to apply the changes, then repeat the same steps until all posts in your queue are properly labeled by content type.
  4. Head over to the left-side panel and click Manage Tags.
  5. Review the number of posts per category under the Scheduled column and ensure all content types are equally distributed to balance your Buffer Queue.

📌 Why this matters

Maintaining a balanced content mix in your social media queue is essential for audience engagement and consistent brand presence. Buffer's tagging system lets social media managers categorize every scheduled post by content type, making it easy to spot imbalances before they go live. By reviewing the Scheduled column in Manage Tags, teams can ensure promotional, educational, and engagement posts are distributed evenly across all channels. This workflow helps marketers optimize their content strategy directly inside Buffer without needing third-party analytics tools.
