Use this interactive demo to learn how to switch your Google Slides layout to portrait orientation.

Quick summary

To change slide orientation to portrait in Google Slides, open File > Page setup, select a custom size with a taller height than width, and click Apply. This method lets you set any portrait dimensions you need directly within Google Slides.

Steps

  1. In the top menu, click File.
  2. In the dropdown menu, click Page setup.
  3. In the Page setup window, click the size dropdown menu.
  4. Choose Custom from the list of size options.
  5. Enter a smaller number for the width and a larger number for the height, such as 7.5 x 10 inches.
  6. Click Apply to save the new slide size.
  7. Your slides will now appear in portrait orientation.

📌 Why this matters

Google Slides defaults to landscape orientation, but many use cases — such as flyers, posters, social media graphics, and printed handouts — require portrait layout. Knowing how to change slide orientation to portrait in Google Slides gives users full control over slide dimensions without needing third-party tools. This built-in Page setup feature supports any custom width and height, making it flexible for both standard and non-standard portrait formats. Mastering this setting saves time and ensures presentations are print-ready or platform-optimized from the start.
