How to Configure a Router in Cisco Packet Tracer

Try this guided demo to learn how to configure a router in Cisco Packet Tracer.
  1. Open Cisco Packet Tracer.
  2. In the device selection box at the bottom of the window, add one router, one switch, and one PC to the workspace.
  3. In the lower-left toolbar, click Connections, then select Copper Straight-Through. Connect the PC to the switch, then connect the switch to the router using available Ethernet ports.
  4. Click the PC in the workspace, then open the Desktop tab.
  5. Click IP Configuration, select Static, then enter 192.168.1.2 as the IP Address, 255.255.255.0 as the Subnet Mask, and 192.168.1.1 as the Default Gateway.
  6. Click the router in the workspace, then open the Config tab.
  7. In the left panel under INTERFACE, select the router port connected to the switch.
  8. Turn Port Status to On, then enter 192.168.1.1 as the IP Address and 255.255.255.0 as the Subnet Mask.
  9. To verify the configuration, click the PC, open the Desktop tab, then click Command Prompt and run ping 192.168.1.1.
