Use this interactive demo to learn how to set up and save a custom filter in Jira.

Quick summary

Creating a filter in Jira lets you narrow your board or backlog view by assignee, issue type, labels, and more. Once saved, the custom filter can be named and shared with your team for consistent project visibility.

Steps

  1. Go to your board or backlog and click on Filter.
  2. Select the Assignee whose cards you want to see in the filtered view.
  3. Add additional parameters such as Issue type, Labels, or other criteria to refine the filter.
  4. Click Save filter to preserve your filter settings.
  5. Enter a name for your filter so it is easy to identify later.
  6. Your Filter is now created — use the Share option to give others access to the updated view.

📌 Why this matters

Jira filters help project managers and team members instantly focus on the tasks that matter most by narrowing board and backlog views by assignee, issue type, or label. Saving and naming custom filters eliminates repetitive manual searching, saving time across daily standups and sprint reviews. Shared filters ensure the entire team works from the same focused view, improving alignment and reducing miscommunication on active projects.
