Use this interactive demo to learn how to build and populate a test suite in Jira using Xray.

Quick summary

A Jira test suite (called a Test Plan in Xray) lets QA teams group, organize, and track test cases in one place. This guide walks you through creating a Test Plan, adding test details, and linking existing test issues directly inside Jira.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Test Plans in Jira and click Create Test Plan.
  2. Fill in the test plan details, including name, description, and relevant components.
  3. Click Create to finalize and generate the new test plan.
  4. Open the test plan you just created to begin configuring it.
  5. Click Add Tests to include existing test cases in the plan.
  6. Select the issues you want to add to your test plan from the list.
  7. Click Add Selected to confirm and attach the chosen issues.
  8. Your test cases are now linked to the test plan, ready to be organized and tracked in Xray.

📌 Why this matters

Creating a test suite in Jira using the Xray plugin gives QA and engineering teams a structured way to group related test cases, monitor test coverage, and track execution progress — all within the same project management tool they already use. A well-organized test plan ensures that no test case is missed before a release, reducing the risk of shipping untested code. By linking existing Jira issues directly to a test plan, teams avoid duplication and maintain a single source of truth for quality assurance. This workflow is essential for teams practicing systematic software testing and continuous delivery inside Atlassian's Jira environment.
