Use this interactive demo to learn how to export Jira Stories as an Excel CSV file.

Quick summary

You can download Jira Stories to Excel by filtering your board's Issues by type and using the built-in Export Excel CSV option. This process lets you extract either all fields or only selected fields from your Jira board in just a few clicks.

Steps

  1. Navigate to your preferred Jira board.
  2. Click 'Issues' located in the side menu of your board.
  3. Start filtering your issues and click the 'Type' column.
  4. Select 'Story' to filter issues by the Story type.
  5. Click 'Export issues' to open the export options.
  6. Choose 'Export Excel CSV (all fields)' or 'Export Excel CSV (current fields)' depending on your needs, then click to download.

📌 Why this matters

Exporting Jira Stories to Excel gives project managers and agile teams a portable, shareable snapshot of their backlog and sprint data without needing direct Jira access. The built-in Export Excel CSV feature supports both full-field and filtered exports, making it easy to create custom reports, share progress with stakeholders, or analyze issue data in spreadsheet tools. This capability is essential for teams that need to track Story-level work outside of Jira or integrate sprint data into external reporting workflows.
