Use this interactive demo to learn how to copy and duplicate a plan in Microsoft Planner.

Quick summary

This tutorial shows how to duplicate a plan in Microsoft Planner using the built-in Copy Plan feature, letting you reuse task structures, attachments, and group assignments without starting from scratch. The process takes under a minute and works directly from the Planner web interface.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the left-side panel and click My Plans.
  2. Select the plan you wish to duplicate from your list of plans.
  3. In the top menu bar, click the drop-down arrow next to the plan name.
  4. Click Copy Plan to open the duplication dialog.
  5. Enter a unique plan name for the duplicate in the provided input field.
  6. Tap the Group menu and select the group where the plan should be stored.
  7. Tick the checkboxes beside any attachments you want to include in the copy.
  8. Click the Copy button to confirm and create the duplicate.
  9. The duplicated plan will appear in your My Plans tab, ready to use.

📌 Why this matters

Duplicating a plan in Microsoft Planner saves teams significant setup time by letting them reuse existing task structures, bucket layouts, and attachments as templates for new projects. Instead of rebuilding recurring workflows from scratch, project managers can copy any plan in seconds and adapt it for a new sprint, campaign, or team. This feature is especially valuable for organizations running standardized processes across multiple teams or time periods. The Copy Plan capability makes Microsoft Planner a more scalable task management tool for growing businesses already in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
