You can change a YouTube thumbnail on an already-published video at any time through YouTube Studio without re-uploading the video. Navigate to the Content section, open the video details, and swap the thumbnail in seconds.
Steps
- Go to studio.youtube.com and click Content in the left sidebar, then click the title or thumbnail of the video you want to update.
- On the video details page, scroll to the Thumbnail section and click the three-dot menu to open the thumbnail options.
- Click Change and select a new image, using at least 1280×720 pixels to avoid blur.
- Confirm the new thumbnail appears in the preview; if it does not look correct, click it again to re-upload.
- Click Save in the top-right corner to apply the change — the updated thumbnail will appear on the video within a few minutes.
