Walk through this interactive demo to learn how to edit a YouTube video after posting.
  1. Go to studio.youtube.com and click Content in the left sidebar. Find the video you want to edit and click its title or thumbnail to open the details page.
  2. To update the title, click into the Title field and type your changes. Keep titles under 100 characters and front-load the most important keywords.
  3. To update the description, click into the Description field and make your edits. Add timestamps, links, or updated context as needed.
  4. Click the thumbnail, then choose a new image file (JPG, GIF, or PNG, up to 2 MB) to upload.
  5. To update tags, scroll down to the Tags field and add or remove tags. Separate each tag with a comma.
  6. To change visibility, click the Visibility section and select Public, Unlisted, Private, or Scheduled. Changes take effect as soon as you save.
  7. Click the X icon in the top-right corner to Save and Close and apply your changes, or click Publish when you’re ready to publish.

📌 Why this matters

Why this matters

Videos rarely come out perfect on the first publish - titles get refined, descriptions need updated links, and thumbnails get swapped out based on performance data. Being able to edit metadata after posting without taking the video down means you can improve a video's discoverability and presentation at any point in its life. For companies, this is especially useful when a product name changes, a link in the description expires, or a thumbnail needs to be refreshed to match a new campaign visual - none of these require re-uploading the video.
