Quick summary

This demo shows how to edit YouTube captions directly inside YouTube Studio, covering text corrections, timing adjustments, adding new lines, and publishing changes. Accurate subtitles improve video accessibility, boost SEO, and increase viewer engagement across all audiences.

Steps

  1. Go to studio.youtube.com and click Subtitles in the left sidebar.
  2. Click the video whose captions you want to edit.
  3. In the captions list, find the language entry you want to edit and click the pencil icon to open the caption editor.
  4. In the editor, click any caption to fix timing or text, and check for possible misspellings.
  5. To adjust timing, click the start or end time field for any caption line and type the corrected timestamp in HH:MM:SS.mmm format.
  6. To delete a caption line, hover over the row and click the trash icon on the right side.
  7. To add a new caption line, click the + icon at the bottom of the editor, set the start and end times, and type the caption text.
  8. Click Publish to save and apply all changes.

📌 Why this matters

Accurate YouTube captions are essential for video accessibility, search engine discoverability, and audience retention. YouTube Studio's built-in caption editor lets creators fix auto-generated subtitle errors, correct timestamps, and add missing lines without third-party tools. Properly edited subtitles help videos rank higher in YouTube and Google search results by making spoken content indexable. This makes caption editing a critical workflow for any creator serious about growing their channel reach.
