Follow this interactive demo to learn how to fade image in Google Slides.
  1. Click on the image you want to fade. You'll know it's selected when you see the blue handles around it.
  2. Head up to the toolbar and click "Format options"—it's tucked near the top right, just waiting for you.
  3. In the sidebar that pops up, find "Adjustments" and click to expand it. This is where the magic happens.
  4. Grab the "Transparency" slider and drag it to the right. The higher the number, the more your image fades.
  5. Keep tweaking until it looks perfect. You'll see the fade update in real-time on your slide.
  6. Done! Your image now has that subtle fade you were going for.

📌 Why this matters

Fading images lets you layer text over photos without losing readability, create subtle watermarks, or build visual hierarchy in your presentations. Beyond these obvious uses, transparency becomes your secret weapon for professional-looking slide transitions and backgrounds. You can blend multiple images together, create depth by layering elements at different opacity levels, or soften distracting background photos so your content takes center stage. This simple adjustment transforms static slides into polished, magazine-quality presentations that guide your audience's attention exactly where you want it.
