Use this interactive demo to learn how to detect and review broken links on your website.

Quick summary

Semrush Site Audit lets you find broken links on any website by crawling your pages and surfacing 404 errors in a structured issues report. Within minutes, you can identify every broken internal or external link, see its error code, and prioritize fixes to protect your SEO health.

Steps

  1. Open your Semrush account and navigate to Site Audit in the left sidebar.
  2. Enter your website URL in the search bar and click Start Audit.
  3. Define the scope of the audit by setting the crawl source and the number of pages to crawl.
  4. Once the audit completes, open the audit report and go to the Issues tab.
  5. Type "broken" in the search bar to filter and highlight all broken link issues.
  6. Click on the broken links result to see the full list of affected URLs.
  7. Review the broken link overview for each URL, including its error code.

📌 Why this matters

Broken links damage both user experience and search engine rankings by signaling poor site quality to crawlers like Googlebot. Semrush Site Audit automates broken link detection across your entire website, surfacing 404 errors and other link issues in a single structured report. This means SEO teams and webmasters can quickly identify, prioritize, and fix broken internal and external links without manual URL checking. Resolving broken links with Semrush helps preserve crawl budget, maintain link equity, and improve overall technical SEO health.
