Use this interactive demo to learn how to import your data on Tableau.
  1. On the Data Source page, click Add to import additional data.
  2. Navigate through the dropdown list, then select 'Microsoft Excel' to import an additional Excel file. If your file is not an Excel file, choose the appropriate file format instead.
  3. Select the Excel file you wish to open, then click 'Open'.
  4. After opening the file, you will see it listed in the Connections panel along with your previous file.

📌 Why this matters

Properly formatted currency displays transform raw numbers into immediately recognizable financial data, eliminating the mental step of interpreting whether 25000 represents dollars, units, or percentages. This formatting becomes crucial when presenting to stakeholders who need to quickly assess budget performance, revenue trends, or cost analysis without squinting at axis labels or legends. Beyond aesthetics, consistent currency formatting prevents misinterpretation in executive dashboards where a single decimal place error or missing symbol could lead to significantly flawed business decisions.
