Quick summary

Google Docs for Jira lets you embed and link Google Docs directly within Jira issues using the Google Docs+ For Jira app from the Atlassian Marketplace. Once installed, team members can attach any Google Doc to a specific issue in seconds, keeping documentation and project tracking in one place.

Steps

  1. Go to the top navigation bar, then click 'Apps'.
  2. Select 'Explore More Apps' from the list of options.
  3. Search for 'Google Docs' and choose 'Google Docs+ For Jira' from the results.
  4. Click 'Try It Free' at the top-right corner of the app listing.
  5. Tap 'Start Free Trial' to proceed with the installation.
  6. On your Jira project dashboard, open the specific issue you want to integrate with Google Docs.
  7. Scroll down to Embeds and select 'Google Docs'.
  8. Paste the Google Docs link you want to attach to the issue, then click 'Save'.
  9. Your Google Docs will be integrated instantly with the selected Jira issue.

📌 Why this matters

Integrating Google Docs with Jira eliminates the friction of switching between project management and document collaboration tools. Teams can link live Google Docs directly to Jira issues, ensuring that specifications, meeting notes, and design briefs are always accessible in context. The Google Docs+ For Jira app makes this connection instant and requires no coding, making it ideal for agile teams that rely on both platforms daily. By centralizing documentation and task tracking, teams reduce miscommunication and keep projects moving faster.
