Walk through this interactive demo to learn how to lock text in Google Slides.
  1. Click Slide on the top menu, then select Edit theme to access the master slides.
  2. On the Theme Builder, select the Master slide (the first slide).
  3. Click Insert, then select Text box to add a textbox to your master slide.
  4. Choose the spot on your slide where you want the textbox, then enter your text.
  5. Click any slide in the left sidebar to exit the Theme Builder and return to your presentation.
  6. Your slide will now display text that is locked and cannot be edited or moved.

📌 Why this matters

Locking text prevents accidental edits during collaborative work and ensures critical information like disclaimers, branding, or instructions remains untouched. Beyond simple protection, this technique transforms how you manage presentation templates across teams. When you distribute templates to colleagues, locked elements maintain your design standards while still allowing customization of other content. This creates a controlled editing environment where stakeholders can personalize slides without breaking carefully crafted layouts or removing essential messaging that must appear consistently across all presentations.
