Use this interactive demo to learn how to make a custom YouTube banner.
  1. Open a design tool such as Canva, Adobe Express, or Photoshop and create a new canvas at 2560 x 1440 pixels. Most tools offer a YouTube banner template preset at this size.
  2. Keep your channel name, tagline, logo, and any posting schedule text within the center safe zone of 1546 x 423 pixels to ensure they are visible on all screen sizes, including mobile and TV.
  3. Use brand colors, fonts, and imagery consistent with your channel identity. Avoid [a][b]clutter - simple designs with one or two focal elements perform better.
  4. Export your finished banner as a PNG or JPG file under 6MB.
  5. Go to studio.youtube.com, open Channel customization, and click Upload under the Banner image section to upload your custom banner.
  6. Review the multi-device preview to confirm key elements are visible on all screen sizes, then click Done.
  7. Click Publish in the top-right corner to apply the banner to your channel.[c][d]
  8. Go to your channel to see the result.

📌 Why this matters

Why this matters

A custom banner does more than fill the header space - it communicates your brand identity, content focus, and professionalism before a visitor watches a single video. Generic or template-only banners with no customization blend in and give new visitors nothing memorable to hold onto. Designing within YouTube's safe zone from the start prevents the common problem of a banner that looks great on desktop but crops your channel name off on mobile. A well-executed custom banner is one of the fastest ways to make a channel look established and worth subscribing to.
