Try this interactive demo to learn how to make a YouTube short on mobile.
  1. Open the YouTube app on your phone and tap the + icon at the bottom center of the screen. Select Create a Short from the menu.
  2. On the Shorts camera screen, tap and hold the red record button to capture your clip. Record in multiple takes if needed, then tap the checkmark once finished.
  3. On the edit screen, tap Text to overlay text on your Short. Tap Filters to apply a color filter if needed. Tap Sound to add background music from YouTube's licensed audio library.
  4. Tap Next in the top-right corner to proceed to the details screen.
  5. Add a title of 100 characters or fewer. Add relevant hashtags in the title or description field to improve discoverability.
  6. Set the visibility to Public, Private, or Schedule using the visibility dropdown.
  7. Tap Upload Short to publish. The Short will appear on your channel and in the Shorts feed within a few minutes.

📌 Why this matters

Why this matters

Recording Shorts directly in the YouTube app removes every barrier between an idea and a published video - there is no file export, no format conversion, and no desktop required. For companies, team members who want to publish quick product updates, event recaps, or behind-the-scenes content while away from the office, the in-app Shorts camera makes it possible to go from concept to live in under five minutes. The built-in text, filter, and audio tools are enough for most short-form content without needing a separate editing app.
