Use this interactive demo to learn how to create multi-column layouts in Notion.

Quick summary

Notion supports multi-column layouts that you can create using either the slash command or by dragging and dropping blocks side by side. Both methods let you organize content visually without any coding or formatting tools.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the area in your Notion page where you want to create columns.
  2. Type the slash command and search for columns using /columns to open the column layout options.
  3. Select the desired column layout from the menu to apply it instantly.
  4. Confirm that your page now displays a multiple column layout with the chosen structure.
  5. Alternatively, hover over any block you want to move to reveal its dotted handle.
  6. Use the drag handle to drag the element next to another block, automatically creating a side-by-side column layout.
  7. Repeat the drag-and-drop process for as many additional columns as you need.

📌 Why this matters

Creating columns in Notion allows users to structure their pages with a clean, side-by-side layout that improves readability and visual organization. Whether you use the slash command for a guided layout picker or drag-and-drop for freeform control, Notion's column feature requires no external tools or technical knowledge. This flexibility makes it a practical solution for teams and individuals who want to build structured wikis, project pages, and dashboards directly inside Notion. Mastering column layouts helps users get more value from Notion as an all-in-one workspace tool.
