Use this interactive demo to learn how to set slide orientation to horizontal in Google Slides.

Quick summary

Google Slides defaults to a horizontal widescreen (16:9) layout, but you can change the slide orientation to other aspect ratios like 4:3 using the Page Setup menu under File. This guide walks you through every step of adjusting your slide dimensions in Google Slides.

Steps

  1. Click File and select Page Setup to open slide dimension settings.
  2. Note that Google Slides is already horizontal by default in Widescreen 16:9 format.
  3. Choose other horizontal options from the drop-down menu in Page Setup.
  4. Click Apply to confirm your chosen slide dimensions.
  5. Your slides are now set to the 4:3 aspect ratio horizontal layout.

📌 Why this matters

Understanding how to control slide orientation in Google Slides helps presenters match their content to the right display format, whether for modern widescreen monitors or traditional 4:3 projectors. The Page Setup feature gives users precise control over aspect ratio without requiring any third-party tools. Getting the correct horizontal layout from the start prevents reformatting issues and ensures slides display cleanly across all devices and venues.
