Try this guided demo to learn how to make slideshow vertical Google Slides.
  1. On your Google Slides, click File in the top-left menu, then scroll to the bottom of the dropdown list and select Page setup.
  2. On the Page setup window, set the page dimensions to 8.5 x 11 inches.
  3. Click the dropdown arrow and choose Custom.
  4. Your presentation will now be in a portrait layout slideshow.

📌 Why this matters

Vertical slideshows work better for mobile viewing, social media posts, and printed handouts that people actually read comfortably. You'll also find portrait orientation essential for displaying tall infographics, step-by-step processes, or content with lots of vertical data like timelines and organizational charts. Most presentation software defaults to landscape because it mimics traditional projector setups, but vertical slides often communicate information more naturally since people scan content from top to bottom, making your message easier to follow and digest.
