Quick summary

This guide shows how to create a contact segment in SendGrid's Marketing Contacts section by defining a segment name, selecting an existing list, and applying targeting conditions. Once saved, the segment helps you manage contact groups more precisely for targeted email campaigns.

Steps

  1. On SendGrid's main dashboard, navigate to the left-side panel and click Marketing.
  2. Choose Contacts from the list of options.
  3. Click Create at the top-right corner of the Contacts page.
  4. Select New Segment to proceed.
  5. Enter a unique Segment Name into the provided input field.
  6. Click Segment an Existing List and choose the list containing the contact group you want to manage.
  7. Under the Targeting section, open the Field menu and select one of the available options.
  8. Open the operator drop-down menu and select your preferred operator.
  9. Enter a custom input into the Value field to complete the targeting condition.
  10. If additional filters are needed, click Add Condition and repeat the targeting steps.
  11. Click Save Segment to finalize and store your new segment.
  12. The selected list is now segmented, allowing you to manage this contact group more effectively.

📌 Why this matters

Managing contact groups effectively in SendGrid is essential for delivering targeted, relevant email campaigns that drive higher engagement. By using SendGrid's segmentation feature, marketers can filter contacts from existing lists based on specific field values and conditions, ensuring the right message reaches the right audience. Contact segmentation reduces unsubscribes, improves deliverability, and maximizes the return on every email send. For teams scaling their email marketing operations, mastering SendGrid contact segments is a critical step toward more personalized and measurable communication.
