How to Manage Content Ideas with Buffer’s Drafts Feature

Use this interactive demo to learn how to organize and manage social media drafts using tags in Buffer.

Quick summary

Buffer's Drafts feature lets you save, tag, and organize social media post ideas in one centralized place before publishing. You can filter drafts by tags, queue them for publication, edit them, or take bulk actions like duplicate and delete — all from the Buffer Publish dashboard.

Steps

  1. Inside Buffer's Create Post panel, finalize the draft of your social media post and click the Add Tags menu to categorize it.
  2. Tick the checkbox beside the tag that best describes your drafted post.
  3. Click Save As Draft to save the post without publishing it.
  4. Navigate to the Publish tab and select Drafts to access all your saved content ideas in one place.
  5. Tap the Tags menu and select the specific category that stores the drafted post you want to review or edit.
  6. The drafted posts under the selected tag will be displayed, giving you a full view of your content ideas.
  7. To schedule a draft, tap Add to Queue to line it up for publication.
  8. Click the Pencil icon to open and edit the draft further before posting.
  9. Tap More Actions to access additional options such as Publish immediately, duplicate, or delete the draft.
  10. Repeat these steps to continuously manage your content ideas using Buffer's Drafts feature.

📌 Why this matters

Buffer's Drafts feature solves a common pain point for social media managers: keeping content ideas organized before they're ready to publish. By allowing users to save posts as drafts, apply tags for categorization, and filter by those tags in a dedicated Drafts view, Buffer ensures no content idea gets lost in the workflow. Teams can queue approved drafts directly from the Drafts panel, edit content on the fly, or take bulk actions like duplicate and delete — making Buffer a powerful tool for streamlined social media content planning and publishing.
