Use this interactive demo to learn how to tag and organize media files in Buffer Publish.

Quick summary

Buffer's media file organization feature lets social media managers upload, tag, and queue content directly from the Publish dashboard. Using custom tags to categorize posts keeps your content library structured and speeds up scheduling across multiple social channels.

Steps

  1. Log in to Buffer and navigate to Publish.
  2. In the left-side menu, select the social media channel you want to manage.
  3. Click New Post to open the post composer.
  4. Click Drag & drop or select a file to upload your media.
  5. Click Add Tag, then select + Create and enter the name of your new tag.
  6. Make sure the tag checkbox is checked to apply the tag to your media.
  7. Click Save as Draft or Add to Queue to proceed with your post.
  8. Review your post and confirm that tags are applied to keep your media organized.

📌 Why this matters

Organizing media files in Buffer is essential for social media teams managing content across multiple channels at scale. Buffer's tagging system allows users to categorize uploaded images and videos directly within the Publish workflow, making it faster to find, reuse, and schedule branded assets. By attaching custom tags to posts at the point of creation, teams eliminate content chaos and maintain a consistent, searchable media library. This structured approach to media management reduces time spent on repetitive tasks and supports a more efficient content calendar workflow.
