Use this interactive demo to learn how to group API requests into folders within a Postman collection.

Quick summary

Organizing request collections using folders in Postman helps teams keep their API workspace structured and easy to navigate. By adding folders inside a collection, you can group related requests, apply shared authorization settings, and move requests with drag-and-drop simplicity.

Steps

  1. Open Postman's main workspace and click Collections in the left-side panel.
  2. Hover over the collection you want to organize, then click the View More Actions button next to it.
  3. Select Add Folder from the dropdown list of options.
  4. Enter a unique folder name and a short description into their respective input fields.
  5. Optionally, open the Authorization and Scripts tabs to further personalize the new folder.
  6. Navigate to the left-side panel, locate a request under the selected collection, and drag it.
  7. Drop the request into the newly created folder to move it.
  8. Repeat these steps until all requests have been organized into their appropriate folders.

📌 Why this matters

Keeping API requests organized inside labeled folders within a Postman collection is essential for any team managing multiple endpoints or microservices. Folder-based organization in Postman reduces onboarding time, makes it easier to apply shared authorization rules, and improves overall API workflow efficiency. Developers and QA engineers can quickly locate, group, and manage related requests without scrolling through an unstructured list. This feature directly supports faster API development cycles and cleaner collaboration across engineering teams.
