Use this interactive demo to learn how to mass delete and clean up records in Salesforce.

Quick summary

The Mass Delete Records tool in Salesforce Setup lets admins perform bulk data cleanup by permanently removing unwanted Leads, Contacts, or Opportunities in just a few steps. This guide walks you through locating the tool, filtering records by criteria, and executing a bulk delete directly from Salesforce.

Steps

  1. Go to Setup in the top right corner of Salesforce.
  2. In the Quick Find box, type "Mass Delete Records" and select it from the results.
  3. Select the record type you want to delete, such as Leads, Contacts, or Opportunities.
  4. Use the Find Records option to filter records by specific criteria before deleting.
  5. Review the additional delete options Salesforce provides based on your selected record type.
  6. Click Delete to permanently remove the selected records from your Salesforce org.

📌 Why this matters

Keeping your Salesforce CRM free of duplicate, outdated, or irrelevant records is critical for data quality, accurate reporting, and sales team efficiency. The built-in Mass Delete Records feature allows Salesforce admins to perform bulk data cleanup without third-party tools, saving time and reducing storage costs. By filtering records before deletion, teams can ensure only the right Leads, Contacts, or Opportunities are removed — minimizing the risk of accidental data loss. Clean CRM data directly improves pipeline visibility, forecast accuracy, and overall go-to-market performance.
