How to Remove a Background Image in Google Slides

Walk through this interactive demo to learn how to remove a background image in Google Slides.
  1. In the left-side panel, select the slide where you want to remove the background image.
  2. Right-click on the background image, then choose Delete.
  3. The background image will be removed from your slide.

📌 Why this matters

Removing background images lets you start fresh with a clean slate for your slides, but it also solves a common design problem: competing visual elements. When background images clash with your text or graphics, they create cognitive overload for your audience. By clearing the background, you regain control over visual hierarchy and ensure your key message stands out. This becomes especially valuable when repurposing slides for different audiences or when inherited presentation templates don't match your content's tone and purpose.
