How to Remove Users From Jira After Suspending

Use this interactive demo to learn how to permanently remove a suspended user from Jira.

Quick summary

To remove a user from Jira, you must first navigate to User Management via the Gear icon, then open the individual user's profile to access the Remove User option hidden in the three-dot menu — the standard actions menu only offers a Suspend User option.

Steps

  1. Click on the Gear icon on the top right of your Jira interface.
  2. Select User Management from the dropdown menu.
  3. Notice that the actions menu next to the user only provides the option to Suspend User, not remove.
  4. Instead, click directly on the user's name to open their detailed profile view.
  5. Click the Three dots menu at the top of the user profile to reveal additional options.
  6. Click on Remove User from the revealed menu.
  7. Confirm your action by clicking Remove User again in the confirmation dialog.

📌 Why this matters

Properly removing users from Jira after suspending them is a critical step in maintaining workspace security and accurate license management. Many Jira admins don't realize that the standard User Management actions menu only offers a Suspend option — the Remove User action is only accessible through the individual user's profile. This demo shows the exact path to permanently delete a user from your Jira organization, helping teams stay compliant, reduce unused seat costs, and keep their user directory clean.
