Use this interactive demo to learn how to crop and resize images for any social media platform in Buffer.

Quick summary

Buffer's built-in image editor lets you crop and resize images to match the exact aspect ratio requirements of any social media platform directly inside the Create Post panel. You can choose from preset ratios or drag scaling grips manually, then apply the crop before adding the image to your post.

Steps

  1. Inside Buffer's Create Post panel, find the image you want to resize and tap its Edit icon.
  2. Click Crop to open the cropping tool.
  3. Select your preferred aspect ratio from the available options, ensuring it is optimized for the social media platform where you plan to publish.
  4. Alternatively, manually resize the image by dragging the scaling grips at the edges of the image.
  5. Grab the selection box and drag it to finalize its position based on your preference.
  6. Tap Apply to confirm the crop settings.
  7. Click Add to insert the resized image into your post.
  8. Your Buffer post image is now resized to meet the requirements of your target social media platform.

📌 Why this matters

Posting images with incorrect dimensions on social media can result in cropped previews, reduced engagement, and an unprofessional appearance. Buffer's built-in image resizing tool lets social media managers crop and adjust image aspect ratios for every platform — including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn — without leaving the scheduling workflow. This eliminates the need for third-party design tools and speeds up the content creation process. For teams managing multiple channels, getting platform-optimized image sizes right inside Buffer means consistent, high-quality visuals across every post.
