Use this interactive demo to learn how to save a trimmed video in Clipchamp.

‍

‍

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to save a trimmed version of a video so you can reuse it in future edits.

‍

  1. Open Clipchamp and create or open a project.
  2. Click Import media and upload the video you want to trim.
  3. Drag the video onto the timeline.
  4. Click the clip to select it.
  5. Drag the start or end handles of the clip to remove unwanted parts.
  6. Preview the clip to make sure only the section you want remains.
  7. Click Export on the top-right corner.
  8. Choose a video quality and change file name then click Export.
  9. Download the trimmed video file to your computer.
  10. You can now import this trimmed video into future projects, making it easier to edit without the extra footage.

‍

Note: Saving trimmed clips separately and with proper labeling is helpful when preparing footage before editing a full video project. It lets you work with shorter clips instead of the entire recording.

📌 Why this matters

Saving trimmed videos gives you clean, focused clips that load faster and take up less storage space. Beyond the obvious benefits, this workflow transforms how you approach larger projects. Instead of scrubbing through hours of raw footage every time you edit, you build a library of pre-cut segments ready to drag and drop.

This becomes especially valuable when collaborating with others or revisiting projects months later—you'll have bite-sized, purposeful clips rather than unwieldy master files that slow down your creative process.
