Use this interactive demo to learn how to recover deleted slides using Google Slides version history.

Quick summary

Google Slides does not have a dedicated recycle bin, but you can recover deleted slides by accessing the version history panel through the File menu. This built-in feature lets you browse previous saved states of your presentation and retrieve any lost content.

Steps

  1. Open the File menu in the top toolbar of your Google Slides presentation.
  2. In the dropdown menu, click Version history.
  3. Click See version history, or use the keyboard shortcut Command + Option + Shift + H on Mac or Ctrl + Alt + Shift + H on Windows.
  4. Look for the deleted slide by checking the previous versions in the version history panel.
  5. Once you find the deleted slide, view it and check for any important notes, text, or elements you want to copy and restore.

📌 Why this matters

Accidentally deleting a slide in Google Slides is a common and stressful mistake, especially mid-project. Google Slides stores a full version history for every presentation, giving users a reliable way to recover deleted slides without needing any third-party tools. This built-in version control feature protects your work and ensures no content is permanently lost as long as auto-save has captured it. Understanding how to access version history is an essential skill for anyone who regularly collaborates or presents using Google Slides.
