Use this interactive demo to learn how to split a video in Clipchamp.

‍

‍

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to divide a video into separate clips.

‍

  1. Open Clipchamp and open your project.
  2. Place your video on the timeline.
  3. Move the playhead to where you want to divide the video.
  4. Right-click on the video clip.
  5. Select Split.
  6. The video will now be divided into two separate clips.

📌 Why this matters

Splitting videos lets you remove unwanted sections, rearrange scenes, or apply different effects to specific parts of your footage. You can delete awkward pauses, cut out mistakes, or create dramatic pacing by repositioning clips.

Beyond basic editing, splitting becomes essential when you want to layer elements like text, music, or transitions at precise moments. Each separated clip can be independently adjusted for color, speed, or audio levels, giving you granular control over your final video that wouldn't be possible with one continuous clip.
