Use this interactive demo to learn how to stabilize your videos in Clipchamp.

‍

‍

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to stabilize video in Clipchamp.

‍

  1. Drag the video onto the timeline.
  2. Add a small object or text then place it over a point of reference in the video clip to act as guide.
  3. Move the playhead to the start of the shaky section.
  4. Use Split to cut the clip into small segments where movement occurs. Frame by frame if you have to.
  5. Select each segment and reposition or crop the frame to align with your guide.
  6. Continue adjusting each segment until the movement looks smoother.
  7. Play the video to preview the result and refine the positioning if needed.
  8. The video should now appear more stable when played back.

‍

Note: Clipchamp doesn’t have a built-in stabilization function yet. This tutorial is just a workaround. Consider using more advanced editing software.

📌 Why this matters

Video stabilization transforms unwatchable shaky footage into professional-looking content, saving you from having to reshoot scenes entirely. Beyond just making videos easier to watch, stabilized footage opens up creative possibilities you might not expect.

Smooth video compresses better for web delivery, reducing file sizes and loading times. It also serves as a better foundation for adding motion graphics, text overlays, or color grading since viewers won't be distracted by jarring camera movements that compete with your visual elements.
