Use this interactive demo to learn how to rotate text sideways in Google Slides.

Quick summary

Learn how to rotate text sideways in Google Slides using either the rotate handle or the Arrange menu for precise angle control. Both methods let you display vertical or angled text on any slide in seconds.

Steps

  1. Click the text box you want to turn sideways.
  2. Locate the blue circular rotate handle at the top of the selected text box.
  3. Click and drag the rotate handle left or right until the text is sideways.
  4. For exact rotation, click Arrange in the top toolbar.
  5. Hover over Rotate in the dropdown menu.
  6. Choose Rotate clockwise 90° or Rotate counterclockwise 90°.
  7. Your text will now appear sideways on the slide.

📌 Why this matters

Rotating text sideways in Google Slides is a key formatting skill for creating visually dynamic presentations, timeline labels, and vertical axis annotations. Google Slides does not offer a native vertical text button, so knowing both the rotate handle and the Arrange menu methods gives users precise control over text orientation. Mastering text rotation helps presenters design more professional, publication-ready slides without relying on third-party tools. This feature is especially valuable for educators, business analysts, and designers who need to display sideways labels or decorative text elements in their decks.
