Use this interactive demo to learn how to upgrade your Salesforce domain security in minutes.

Quick summary

Upgrading domain security in Salesforce involves configuring a custom My Domain through Salesforce Setup to generate secure, organisation-specific URLs. This process lets admins register, verify, and deploy a new domain directly within Salesforce Lightning, strengthening authentication and access control.

Steps

  1. Go to Setup by clicking the gear icon in Salesforce Lightning.
  2. Use Quick Find to search for My Domain and select it from the results.
  3. Click Edit under the My Domain Details section.
  4. Enter a new domain name in the My Domain Name text field.
  5. Click the Check Availability button next to the My Domain Name field to verify the domain.
  6. Confirm that the domain shows as Available.
  7. Click Save to register the new domain.
  8. Once Salesforce creates the new URLs, return to My Domain and click Deploy to activate them.

📌 Why this matters

Upgrading domain security in Salesforce by configuring a custom My Domain is a critical step for organisations that need to enforce stricter authentication policies, enable single sign-on (SSO), and meet compliance requirements. A dedicated Salesforce domain provides organisation-specific login URLs that reduce phishing risks and improve identity verification across all users. Admins who complete this setup unlock access to advanced security features, including Lightning component restrictions and enhanced session management. For any business running sensitive customer data through Salesforce, domain security configuration is a foundational best practice that directly reduces unauthorised access risk.
